About the project

The precinct is proposed across approximately 1,500 hectares (15 square kilometres) and is being master planned to enable coordinated industrial development through shared common-user infrastructure and a clear approvals and environmental assessment pathway.

The master-planning program is informed by more than 200 technical studies and a strategic assessment approach to guide long-term development. The precinct is intended to attract industries aligned with the Territory’s future economy, including hydrogen, carbon capture, advanced manufacturing and minerals processing.

Middle Arm already supports nationally significant energy and industrial operations. Current investment within the precinct includes:

  • Santos Darwin LNG (site 7682-08) — a leading Australian oil and gas exploration and production company operating in the Northern Territory.
  • INPEX Ichthys LNG Darwin (Middle Arm Precinct 7) — Ichthys LNG produces 8.9 million tonnes of LNG and 1.65 million tonnes of LPG per annum.

A Land Allocation Framework supports strategic land use aligned to the precinct plan and strategic objectives. It provides a structured process to evaluate proposals against strategic and economic benefit, and opportunities to maximise integration and collaboration across the precinct.

While projects will continue to progress through commercial development, the framework can provide proponents greater certainty about land requirements to support planning. All projects remain subject to approvals, community consultation and all regulatory and administrative requirements, including Environment Protection Authority processes.

Land Development Corporation supports precinct delivery by unlocking and preparing strategic land and progressing investment-ready pathways within a whole-of-government framework.
